PLANNED TOWNE CENTER DEVELOPMENT TO COME TO COLUMBIA COUNTY ALONG WITH MEYBOHM’S COLUMBIA COUNTY HEADQUARTERS

Evans, Ga (February 23, 2016)- Today the Development Authority of Columbia County announced a new mixed use development,  The Plaza At Evans Towne Center , to be located on Evans Town Center Boulevard .  The Plaza will serve as the new city center for Evans and offer a unique opportunity for retail and office space, residential living, and community amenities and will be anchored by the planned cultural arts center. Phase I of The Plaza will be 96,000 SF including 56,000 SF of office space and nearly 40,000 SF of retail space. This development will be phased in over the next several years and is expected to be a $65 million investment and nearly 300,000 SF.

“This is an exciting opportunity for Columbia County,” said Development Authority Chairman, Hugh Hollar. “The development of The Plaza will transform the Evans landscape and provide many unique opportunities to the citizens on a level we have never seen before in our area.”

Over the past year, the Development Authority has worked with County officials to identify a development strategy to bring The Plaza to fruition. The Development Authority has identified Meybohm Group as our development partner for Phase I.  This came as Meybohm decided to relocate their Columbia County headquarters to The Plaza. Meybohm’s new headquarters will house over 100 employees and agent associates in more than 20,000 square feet.

“We are excited about the opportunity to partner with the Development Authority and County to deliver a downtown that will hopefully exceed the expectations of the residents of Columbia County. This is a unique opportunity and we plan to take careful steps to insure we get it right the first time. Relocating our Residential Sales, New Homes and Property management into a new Columbia County Headquarters will be an added bonus,” said Mike Polatty, President of Meybohm Realtors.

It has been the long time vision of the local Board of Commissioners to have a destination city center that included office residential and retail space.

“Dreams do come true! It has been a dream for years of the Board of Commissioners, the Development Authority and most of the citizens to have a true Towne Center for Columbia County,” said Ron Cross, Chairman of the Columbia County Board of Commissioners. “After almost five years of dreaming and planning, it is happening. Evans Towne Center Park was the beginning and now through a wonderful public-private partnership we are ready to add The Plaza to Evans Towne Center.”
